The annual festival that brings Al Quoz alive with music, art and dance returns this Saturday.
Quoz Happens, which began last year, is back with a wider programme and partnerships with Art Dubai and the Dubai International Film Festival to present a 12-hour event over 32 spaces in the heart of the industrial area.
The day begins with a public art programme at thejamjar, the Ripe organic food market in The Courtyard and a children’s workshop at Gallery Ward.
In the afternoon, the Peruvian graphic designer German Fernandez will give the first of a series of artist talks at FN Designs and a pop-up studio at Capsule Arts will show artists working as well as offering limited-edition prints. There will be guided tours of galleries on Alserkal Avenue and the evening will give way to performances of music and dance as well as panel discussions and talks from artists, including a book launch with Nadim Karam at Ayyam Gallery.
There will be a bus to transport visitors over four different routes and a mobile stage with music from acts such as the Healer Twins, Zubin and Josh Monteath.
Vilma Jurkute, one of the event’s coordinators, says that after the inaugural event last year with 5,000 attendees, they realised that people are “longing for cultural activities and for events within art, design and film and that is what gave us this inspiration to continue and expand and to have one every year”.
Abdelmonem bin Eisa Alserkal, the developer of Alserkal Avenue, says: “We believe that projects such as Quoz Happens attracts more cultural minds and creates a daytime framework for visitors to explore the area through cultural activities.”
Quoz Happens is run in collaboration with Art in the City.
