The Workshop, a new art concept space is now open. The converted villa in Jumeirah, Dubai, consists of an art gallery, coffee corner and design boutique.
I visited the space ahead of its opening and was introduced to the world of Majd Kurdieh, a Syrian artist who uses cartoon-like characters to talk about the current state of the world.
The exhibition is called The Land Needs Ironing and it takes its title from a short film, where his two main Fasoon and Fasooneh are ironing the sharp spikes out of the land and leaving a trail of flowers. The work is moving in its simplicity and translates as a heart-felt plea for the world to be a better place for the children who grow up in it.
The exhibition is well worth a visit as is the space, it is a gallery, shop, boutique and breath of fresh air.
