In the current exhibition at the Rotunda Gallery at the American University in Dubai, Zahra Jewanjee has depicted birds, not in flight but in a trance-like state and synchronised. Murmuration explores the geometric order amidst the flock that is complex and indefinable, which Jewanjee says is her inspiration for this, her most recent body of work.
The pieces are beautiful and compelling. “Zahra’s use of a myriad of skills and techniques demonstrates a high degree of determination and passion in her works, this complete with a strong conceptual foundation leaves the viewer in no doubt of their commanding presence. Order and chaos are present in equal measure and the synthesis of these opposing forces brings complexity and grace to her visually stunning works,” says Professor Michael Rice, the associate professor of studio art at the university.
