Hazem Harb, the prominent Palestinian artist who has just sold a series of photographs to the British Musuem in London and was one of the installation artists who took pride of place in Athr Gallery’s booth at Art Dubai last month, will be painting live all weekend in Dubai.

As part of Dubai Art Season 2014, Harb is one of three international aritsts occupying the ‘Live Artist Window’ at The Beach, the new leisure destination on JBR.

From yesterday until Saturday, Harb is painting the last piece in his latest abstract geometric series titled Al Baseera. He will be working in The Piazza, an open air area in the centre of the area and it is a chance to see an internationally acclaimed artist in action.

Harb began working on the Al Baseera series a year ago after completing a residency in Dubai at Satellite, saying he was interested in researching the Arabesque form but interpreting it in a modern way that still retains its spirituality.

He says he is really enjoying the experience of working live and in front of the public. “As an artist, I believe that art should come out of the studio and be in a place where the public can interact with it,” he says. “So this is a very nice experience for me.”

He adds that he is used to working intensively so he is not feeling too pressured to finish the painting before Saturday. “I’m not worried about that,” he laughs, “I am already well on the way to getting it done.”

* Harb will be painting in the ‘Live Artist Window’ at The Piazza, The Beach opposite JBR from 9:00am - 1:00pm and 4:00pm - 10:00pm
