All works up for grabs at the Affordable Art Night are priced at Dh4,000 or less.
It's now easier than ever to collect regional art
Getting good, original artworks into your home can often be a costly affair. But tonight the folks at XVA Gallery offer up works by several artists from the gallery's roster at more accessible prices.
"The concept behind Affordable Art Night came from a client who admitted that he thought all the galleries in Dubai were overpriced and didn't offer a range of works to suit different budgets," says Meagan Kelly Horsman, the director of XVA Gallery in DIFC.
All works up for grabs are priced at Dh4,000 or under, with watercolours by the rapidly rising Emirati artist Maitha Demithan available for a humble Dh350 each.
The sculptures and works on paper by the Iranian Morteza Zahedi are a highlight here, including several profile portraits that exaggerate their subject to grotesque effect. Mixed-media sculptures by the UAE-based artist Colleen Quigley - with an undulating form adorned with crisp porcelain blue hawks and peacocks - are available for Dh4,000 and keep an eye out for exuberant new paintings by the Saudi Arabian artist Hussein Al Mohasen.
Tonight's event also presents pieces of handmade jewellery by the Pakistani artisan Manko and vintage film posters from the golden age of Pakistani cinema.
XVA Gallery, Building 7, Gate Village, Dubai International Finance Centre. 7pm to 9pm.
