The students at Mawaheb from Beautiful People, an art centre for adults with special needs in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood collaborated with Future Fashion in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest abaya.

The garment measured, 10 metres tall with a bottom width of 4.02 metres and a length of 5.47 metres across the sleeves and was made in collaboration with fashion designer Ayesha SN who utilised the artistic designs of all the students to decorate it.

Wemmy De Maaker, the founder and director of the Mawaheb centre says that: “The abaya is a statement that people with special needs have a talent and are part of our community.”

The creation, simply titled Largest Abaya stands at the entrance to Dubai’s Sikka Art Fair that runs until next Tuesday.
