ABU DHABI // The work of seven artists from seven countries will be on display in the capital in an exhibition showcasing the UAE's multicultural residents.

The show, Seven Perspectives, begins next week, organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach).

Abdulla al Ameri, the director of arts and culture at Adach, said it was "part of Adach's aim to establish a local cultural environment which is not only influenced by Arab culture, but brings in the international cultures of which there are so many among us".

He said he hoped the exhibition would attract visitors of many nationalities, adding that art had a unique power to unite the community without the need for language.

The artists - from England, Uganda, New Zealand, Pakistan, Italy, the US and Bulgaria - are members of the Abu Dhabi Art Squad.

Formed in October 2008, the group is dedicated to nurturing the UAE's grass roots arts scene. One of its founding members, New Zealander Bruce Hill, said members help each other get exposure.

Seven Perspectives will take place from January 17-31 at the National Theatre Abu Dhabi. Entry is free.
