It might look like the inside of an unkempt artist’s studio with the paintings overlapping each other on the walls and stacked on the floor, an overloaded table in the middle and a giant sculpture hanging from the ceiling - but that is its intended appearance.

Curator turned artist Fereydoun Ave designed the booth as an installation featuring a number of artworks selected from the roster of Dastan’s Basement Gallery (established in Tehran in 2012). Ave initially showcased his way of living with art in an exhibition titled “Some of My Favorite Things” in Dubai in 2013 and since then, he has been collaborating with the gallery as a curator, advisor, and collector.

As well as Dastan’s artists, he has included items from his art collection including artworks by Ardeshir Mohassess - one of the most prolific, influential and internationally-renowned Iranian artists of the 20th century. Also in the booth are furniture, design elements and other favourite things that Ave has collected over the years.

The first in a three-volume set of books on Fereydoun Ave covering his work work as a graphic, set, furniture, costume and interior designer (initially launched in 2014) will be relaunched during Art Dubai to honour the collaborations with the artist and as a reference to the presentation’s background.
