By this point in the summer, most children are climbing the walls with the summer heat making play outdoors unbearable and school being closed for the next couple of months. Well what better way to keep them entertained than the annual Art Camp inside the Farjam Foundation gallery in Dubai International Financial Centre. It runs all summer until the end of August and is for children aged between seven to 13.

This year, under the theme Crafting Legends, the team at Farjam have devised a programme to take your children back in time to explore the wonders of Middle Eastern art. During the seven-week programme, children will have the opportunity to learn, explore and be inspired by myths and tales from the Shahnameh, legendary epic of Ancient Persia, creating their own versions of the objects they encounter along the way.

The Shahnameh, also known as ‘The Book of Kings’, was written by the poet Ferdowsi in the 11th century and tells the mythical story of Ancient Persia. From exploring and recreating famous miniatures, ceramics, textiles, portraits of kings and queens, to being dazzled by brilliant jewels and impressive armour, camp participants will discover a range of famous artworks and objects from The Farjam Collection.

The children will be divided into two groups depending on their age take part in interactive workshops every day. They will also learn various styles and artistic techniques such as painting, sculpture, pottery and photography.

At the end of each week of camp, The Farjam Foundation will host an exhibition of its participants’ artworks in order to share what they have learnt and created with family and friends.

* There are still a few places left for the camp which starts on Sunday so if you are interested get in touch with the gallery by emailing touran@farjamfoundation.org or calling 043230303. Camp runs from July 13th until August 28th.
