With a series of paintings on bed linen, Noor Al Suwaidi has attempted to capture the moment between waking and sleeping in her latest series currently on display in Cuadro in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). With wandering lines that begin out of focus and become more accentuated as they near the surface, the abstract paintings successfully explore the intangibility of the subconscious.

Accompanied by a series of beautiful charcoal drawings, the pieces are only on display until next week and I would definitely recommend taking the time out to see them.

Also in the gallery are the Black and White series by Khalid Al Banna. In a departure from his fabric works, which were sold at Christie’s last year, Al Banna uses simple materials and the contrast of black and white to create abstract collages that explore the eternal conflict between good and evil, light and darkness, hope and despair.

It is a short but rewarding show and will be up in Cuadro until Monday. Make sure you go and see it this weekend.
