Al Burda to present Islamic art exhibition with 10 contemporary artists at Abu Dhabi Art
The travelling show will feature the works of artists selected for the first Al Burda Endowment last year
Al Burda, an initiative that celebrates Islamic art and culture, will present the works of 10 artists in their Al Burda Endowment exhibition, which will take place during this year’s Abu Dhabi Art in November.
Launched by the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, Al Burda hosts a biennial festival and runs an endowment programme that provides funding to artists and designers working within the field of Islamic art.
Last year, the first Al Burda Festival was held in Abu Dhabi and held plenary sessions, masterclasses, workshops and performances. On Tuesday, October 8, the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development confirmed that the 2020 edition of the festival will be held in Dubai, on the occasion of the Prophet’s Birthday.
The selected artists for the first Al Burda Endowment include Aljoud Lootah, Ebtisam Abdulaziz, Khalid Al Banna and Ammar Al Attar, all from the UAE, Dana Awartani and Nasser Al Salem from Saudi Arabia, Aisha Khalid from Pakistan, Zoulikha Bouabdellah from Algeria, Fatima Uzdenova from Russia and Stanley Siu from Hong Kong. Their works will be unveiled on Thursday, November 21 at Abu Dhabi Art.
The exhibition will eventually travel to Alserkal Avenue next year. Details of the festival programme will be announced later this year.
