When I first received news about Abu Dhabi Art’s Beyond section, I was really excited to see works of art being placed around the city. Anyone who follows my blog or my stories in the paper will know how much emphasis I place on public art.

Sadly, the Beyond sculptures are not being placed around the city, rather at key points around the fair. But that still engages us on a different level. I think the furthest piece from Manarat Al Saadiyat is Sahand Hesamiyan's Untitled (2013), at the St Regis hotel and brought to us by The Third Line. I was moved by what the artist said of the piece so I wanted to share it with you here.

“This piece was made to be exhibited by the sea in a Scandinavian country. It was like an object brought by waves to the shore. It has stories and mysteries. It even might bring new culture and philosophy with itself to the new land. Its form and shape, also the position of its lines, gives the spectator the opportunity to explore the piece and find new perspectives by walking around it. As they look at it more and make a good connection with it, they find more new mysteries. This continues to happen at night, when its surface glows. Like an object coming from the sea that is going to be explored by the people who find it, this piece is being brought to the Beyond section of Abu Dhabi Art from far away, to be explored by yet another set of people.”

If you have the time, make sure to go have a look.
