At only five years old yet of Dubai’s strongest contemporary art galleries, Lawrie Shabibi constistently puts out thoughtful exhibitions and works with a wide variety of artists. Their booth at Abu Dhabi Art has undertones of miniliasm with quiet and seemingly delicate works that certainly deserve time and reflection.

Perhaps the most attractive work in the booth is one of Nabil Nahas’ Fractal paintings made from layers of pumice and acrylic on canvas and it hangs over two stunning marble sculptures by Mona Saudi, who is one of the foremost sculptors in the region. There are also works by Shaikha Al Mazrou whose use of metal, colour and form is constantly impressive and an installation from Nathaniel Rackowe that consists of a hollow door pierced with a flourescent light. Rackowe also has a work in the Beyond section of the fair so one of his larger sculptures has been placed at Warehouse 421, just across the Sheikh Khalifa Bridge from Saadiyat Island.

After you visit the fair, it is certainly worth paying that site a visit too.
