This week is Abu Dhabi Art week. Art enthusiasts, collectors and gallerists are all set to converge in the capital to witness the eighth edition of the fair and we start the week off with the news that there is now a fair director. Dyala Nusseibah takes up her role immediately although she has not been involved in the 2016 edition, her input will be evident from next year’s event.

However, having never had a director before, this is great news for the fair. It is much smaller than many international rivals, giving it a boutique feel and many galleries bring big ticket items aiming for the museums. In my opinion, the main downfall until now has been lack of leadership, leading to disorganisation and erratic attendance. I will be interested to see what Dyala says and does over the coming months.

For now though, let’s focus on this year and look forward to a great week.
