Amour and Argo win at Cesars

Amour and Argo took home top prizes at France’s Cesar awards on Friday night, reflecting excitement and emotion ahead of the Oscars. Michael Haneke’s Amour won Best Film, Best Director – and Best Actress and Best Actor prizes for its octogenarian stars, Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Louis Trintignant. Argo won the Best Foreign Film Award. Kevin Costner, who got a Lifetime Achievement award, said “merci” over and over again on stage. He was even offered a horse, amid jokes about the horsemeat scandal in Europe. – AP

Timberlake tours with Jay-Z

Justin Timberlake is going to team up with Jay-Z this summer for full-scale concerts in North America. The duo will kick off a Legends of the Summer tour on July 17 in Toronto, Canada. “What are you doing this summer?!?!” teased the 32-year-old singer on Twitter. Timberlake’s last big tour was in 2007, after which he put music on the back burner to pursue his acting ambitions. His latest track, Suit & Tie, which features Jay-Z, is at number nine this week in Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart. – AFP

Lady Gaga gets hip surgery

Lady Gaga says she’s had hip surgery. The 26-year-old singer posted on her blog on Wednesday that the surgery “happened so fast”. She cancelled her Born This Way Ball tour last week. She said that as she was wheeled to surgery, she reflected on her fans. She wrote: “Sometimes you are so brave that it terrifies me. I wonder how it’s even possible.” – AP

Mel B named new Talent judge

The former Spice Girl Melanie Brown is joining the judges’ panel of America’s Got Talent. Brown, known as Scary Spice, will take her seat alongside Howie Mandel and Howard Stern when the show returns for its eighth season this summer. Brown recently completed a two-season run as a judge on the Australian edition of The X Factor. – AP

Michelle Obama jokes about hosting TV

The US president’s wife’s Michelle Obama says she’s eyeing another job in 2016 and, contrary to speculation, it doesn’t involve running for public office. During her first appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Friday, the host asked her to consider a Michelle-Hillary (Clinton) ticket for president in 2016. Obama replied that she’s thinking about “putting my hat in the ring” for The Tonight Show when its host Jay Leno retires. Later, she danced with Fallon as she promoted her fitness campaign. – AP

YouTube data now part of Billboard

Viral videos can now help propel a song to the top of the Billboard charts. Billboard has announced that YouTube data in the US is now one of the factors when ranking Hot 100 songs. The new rule went into effect this week, with the YouTube hit Harlem Shake debuting at No 1. Other factors include radio airplay, digital download sales, physical single sales,

on-demand audio streaming and online radio streaming. – AP
