Aamir Khan lauds Imax cinema
The superstar Aamir Khan, whose forthcoming film Dhoom 3 is being shot in the Imax format, is delighted that the technology is coming to India. Dhoom 3, which is written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif, is being marketed as the first Bollywood movie to be released in the Imax format. "It's great to see Imax coming to India," Khan said at the launch of the PVR Imax theatre in Mumbai. "It is really amazing, you are transported into a different world and that's what you want as an audience." * IANS
Kumar unafraid of typecasting
The southern Indian actress Vedhika Kumar says she is not concerned about only starring in period dramas. After receiving critical acclaim for her performance in the Tamil historical romance Paradesi, she has just signed up for a movie in the same genre, Kaaviya Thalaivan. "I take it as a compliment because I don't think anybody is bothered about such trivial things nowadays," she said. "I'm not afraid of being typecast because I believe period films are not easy to play. If I've been chosen again for a period flick, then probably I have the ability to pull off such roles," she added. Kaaviya Thalaivan is based on the real relationship between singers KB Sundarambal and SG Kittappa. * IANS
Gym trainer wins MasterChef India
Ripudaman Handa’s passion and love for cooking helped him win the MasterChef title in the third season of the reality cooking show MasterChef – Kitchen Ke Superstar on Friday. The youngest contestant on the show, Handa, 23, a personal trainer from Delhi, walked away with the 10 million rupee (Dh638,000) prize and a chance to publish his own cookery book. He defeated Doyel Saragi, a homemaker from Kolkata and Navneet Rastogi of Varanasi, who hails from a family of caterers. Handa says he now aims to travel abroad to widen his knowledge of food. The Punjabi lad with a flair for Italian cooking also hopes to open his own restaurant someday. * IANS
