Dubai packed full of South Indian celebrities for the first SIIMA ceremony.
A galaxy of South Indian stars appears for awards
A galaxy of stars - that's how the organisers of the first South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) are referring to the inaugural event, with close to 400 entertainers from the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada film industries coming to Dubai.
A star-studded fashion show and the SIIMA Gen Next awards for rising stars, hosted by the model and actress Parvathy Omanakuttan, will be held today at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Dubai. Tomorrow, the celebrities will walk the red carpet before the ceremony at Dubai World Trade Centre, hosted by R Madhavan and Lakshmi Manchu.
SIIMA aims to recognise the best of the South Indian film industry, which releases the largest number of films in India, with box-office receipts exceeding Bollywood's. Dubai was selected because of its large number of South Indian expats.
Today's event is invitation only but tickets for tomorrow's awards can be purchased from Choithrams and Saravanaa Bhavan outlets across Dubai and Sharjah, and online at www.timeouttickets.com. Or call 04 358 7644 or 055 744 0625. Tickets start at Dh125, with VIP tickets priced at Dh1,000. VIPs get to walk the red carpet and be seated alongside the celebrities. Doors open at 4pm.
