The Bollywood actor Govinda has finally agreed to play the father to the reigning superstar Ranbir Kapoor in the film Jagga Jasoos. The 30-year-old Kapoor will apparently be playing the role of a young detective in the film, a joint production between the actor and Anurag Basu. Govinda said he has agreed to be a part of the film, but only verbally as “the formal agreement is yet to be done”. Jagga Jasoos is produced by Kapoor and Anurag Basu’s Picture Shuru Productions and Disney, and will be out next year.
Khuda Gawah might get a sequel
Manoj Desai, the producer of the 1992 Bollywood film Khuda Gawah, says he wants to make a sequel. The original starred Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi and was about an Afghan lord caught between love and revenge. Desai said: “I have already started work on it and the script is being written. I want Amitabh to be a part of the second film, too. I plan to approach him soon.” The original film, shot in India and Afghanistan, was one of the biggest grossers of 1992 in both countries and enjoyed a long run in Kabul cinemas.
Rituparno Ghosh’s unreleased movie to open Kolkata film festival
The 19th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) will open with the screening of an unreleased film by the iconic Rituparno Ghosh. “Ritu da is no more with us. But he continues to live with his immortal creations. His unreleased film Taak Jhaank [Sunglass] will be screened for the first time in the inaugural ceremony of the 19th Kolkata International Film Festival on that day,” the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said. Ghosh’s satire Taak Jhaank brings together two veterans of Bollywood – Jaya Bachchan and Naseeruddin Shah – for the first time. A maker of several acclaimed and award-winning films, Ghosh died in May this year of a heart attack. He was 49. The KIFF, scheduled to be opened by Bachchan on November 10, will be attended by a number of luminaries including the megastar Shah Rukh Khan – also the state’s brand ambassador – and the actor Kamal Hassan.
