Eagles kick off three nights in New York
The Eagles offered up Peaceful Easy Feeling and other hits on Friday at Madison Square Garden, the first of three concerts in New York as part of their History of the Eagles tour. It coincides with this year’s release of the documentary of the same name, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is now out on DVD. With Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, Timothy B Schmit and others, the band played a series of rock classics and staples of radio when vinyl ruled: Take It Easy, Take It to the Limit, The Long Run, I Can’t Tell You Why and, of course, Hotel California in all its guitar-heavy glory.
Shahid Kapoor starts filming for Haider
Shahid Kapoor began filming Vishal Bharadwaj’s Haider, a take on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, over the weekend in Srinagar, Kashmir. The actor tweeted: “Morning all. Day 1 #haider #tobeornottobe. Srinagar.” According to reports, Kapoor was so excited about the project that he chose to do it over Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Milan Talkies. Shraddha Kapoor and Tabu are also in the film. Kapoor and Bharadwaj last worked together in 2009 on the smash hit Kaminey.
Larry King returns to radio
Larry King is returning to radio with minute-long, daily reports starting today. The former CNN host will be featured on more than 50 stations owned by Cumulus across the US. AARP, a seniors advocacy group, will also feature it on its website, along with additional audio. This stint marks King’s return to radio after six decades, according to a statement by his representative and AARP. The 79-year-old King was a staple on CNN with Larry King Live until 2010, interviewing luminaries ranging from celebrities to politicians, until he left the cable network in 2010.
Dutch actress unhappy with Bollywood’s portrayal of foreigners
The Dutch actress Sippora Zoutewelle is making her Indian debut on television rather than the big screen because she feels the portrayal of foreigners in Hindi-language films is not always correct. “I think the way foreigners are portrayed in Bollywood is wrong,” said Zoutewelle. “Foreigners are shown to be very sexy and outgoing. They are shown to do everything and have low [moral] standards. But my family is conservative and we are much like Indian families,” said the 21-year-old.
Anthony Mackie arrested
Anthony Mackie has been arrested in New York City on a driving-while-intoxicated charge. Police in New York say the 35-year-old Pain & Gain actor was pulled over just before 1.30am on Saturday in Harlem in upper Manhattan. They say he refused to take a breathalyser test to measure his blood-alcohol level. Mackie was awaiting arraignment in the Manhattan Criminal Court and unavailable for comment. Mackie has appeared in numerous films, such as the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker, The Adjustment Bureau and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
