SNL reveals hosts line-up for new season
Tina Fey returns to Saturday Night Live as the host of the NBC late-night institution's 39th-season premiere on September 28. Fey, who will mark her fourth time as host since leaving the show for 30 Rock in 2006, will be joined by the band Arcade Fire, also making their fourth appearance. For week two on October 5, Miley Cyrus, who made a splash at MTV's Video Music Awards, will both host and perform as the musical guest. And on October 12, Bruce Willis returns for his second hosting stint, joined by Katy Perry, who will be promoting her new album Prism.
Preity Zinta to star with Sunny Deol
The Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has signed on to star in Neerraj Pathak's Bhaiyyaji Superhit opposite Sunny Deol. Zinta's last film, Ishkq in Paris, was a boxoffice flop, but the actress says she is undeterred. "I've been expanding my horizons, exploring new areas of work-related activity," she said. "I didn't want my life to be restricted to one vocation. I've done other things. Now I'm back doing what I am most comfortable doing." Preity begins shooting for Bhaiyyaji Superhit in Udaipur this week.
Robin Quivers announces she is cancer free
Robin Quivers, Howard Stern's long-time sidekick on The Howard Stern Show, has revealed that she battled cancer for a year but is now cured. Quivers, 61, had been doing the show from home for the past 15 months while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for endometrial cancer. Stern, who is a judge on America's Got Talent, said: "I gotta be honest, I thought she was a goner. I can't tell you how dire everything seemed." Quivers said: "I've always been a quality of life kind of person and I didn't want to live in a certain state." She received the good news three months ago. "I go into my doctor's office. She just looks at everything, she goes: 'You're cured. You're done, because you're cured.'"
August: Osage County may garner Oscars
August: Osage County, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday night, might both see Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts nominated for the Best Actress award at the Oscars. The film, directed by John Wells, received wide acclaim at the festival and both Streep and Roberts have been commended for their roles: a pill-popping mother and her bitter daughter.
Kidman to replace Watts in Bell biopic
Naomi Watts has been dropped from Werner Herzog's biopic Queen of the Desert, about the early 20th-century explorer Gertrude Bell. Nicole Kidman is in talks for the role. Earlier this year, the male leads in the film were switched, with James Franco replacing Jude Law. Bell, an explorer, writer, archaeologist and attaché for the British Empire, was credited with helping to catalyse the formation of the Middle East at the dawn of the 20th century.
