Habitat for Humanity operates all over the globe now.

The latest Indian incarnation is a rural village near Hyderabad where nine students from Al Ain Men's College spent 10 days mixing concrete and lugging bricks to build three houses. They brought building materials into the village that lacks roads and running water. The students learned about more than construction.

As reported today in The National, one 20-year-old Emirati business student observed: "Each moment there was brilliance. We spent all our time with people and working to build houses, and I Iearnt a lot of things about appreciating what we have here in our country and helping all the poor people in the world."

Another student said that it was difficult to witness raw, rural poverty. "But when we saw the people and the smiles on their faces, that was nice."

The next project the students will tackle will be in Africa.
11OPINION201010310110201000AD201010311070582010103110001102014110f702f9edd79fb210VgnVCM200000e66411ac____e702f9edd79fb210VgnVCM200000e66411ac____f900337157e2b210VgnVCM100000e56411acRCRD1
