Two men were injured after their fishing boat burst into flames just off the shore of Ras Al Khaimah.

On Tuesday at around 5.30pm, the Emirati fisherman and Indian worker were returning to dock in Shaam Port after their daily fishing trip when their boat engine exploded, according to Khalifa Al Muhairi, manager of RAK fishermen association. He said a fuel leak is believed to have caused the explosion.

“Some fishermen were around the incident site and managed to save both of them and contacted the coastguard,” Mr Al Muhairi said.

The 50-year-old fisherman, who suffered minor injuries, and the worker, who fractured a rib, were transferred to Saqr hospital for treatment.

They were discharged from hospital on the same day.

Investigations are under way to determine the causes of the fire.
