The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai will launch a student contest looking for applications to support its services.

The contest is part of smart government efforts to make RTA services available online. Academics and members of the RTA met this week to discuss the criteria of the competition, which would run over three weeks.

“The RTA has opted to avail the public, particularly university students, the opportunity to experiment its smart apps such that these youths can grasp a feel and look of the features and benefits of these smart services with the aim of embedding the culture of using smart services, and using mass transit means by this important community segment,” said Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, head of the team supervising the RTA’s transition to smart government. “Moreover, through this experiment, the RTA will be able to identify the points of strength and weakness by analysing feedbacks, ideas and deliverables of experiments, which would be developed by varsity students.”

He said student submissions should include real-time transportation information, inquiries about Nol card balances, filing complaints or suggestions and accessing station and statistical information for Dubai Metro and Tram.

“We have set a timetable for running this contest where registration will start from March 10 and continue up to April 15 this year, and the contest will run from May 10.”

Three winners will be selected.
