Seven people were injured in a fire that broke out in an apartment building in Sharjah on Sunday.

Col Sami Al Naqbi, head of Sharjah Civil Defence, said the fire began in the kitchen of a flat in Tiger Tower 3 at 7am.

Ambulances and firefighting teams were immediately sent, reaching the tower in Al Taawun within 10 minutes, Col Al Naqbi said.

Five of the seven injured were treated on site and the remaining two were admitted to hospital for smoke inhalation.

Meanwhile rescue workers ensured the building was completely evacuated.

Firefighting units from three stations were sent to tackle the fire, which Col Al Naqbi described as "moderate".
