ABU DHABI // International Media Investments has acquired ownership of The National, which has been owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Media since its launch in 2008.

In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, IMI and ADM said: "The National has brought new standards of reporting and analysis to the UAE and the region, and has acted as a unique global English language portal for information about, and perspectives from, the Middle East.

"The 21st-century media landscape, dominated by digital platforms, especially mobile, offers new opportunities for The National to develop and extend its voice, while maintaining a robust presence as a traditional print asset.

"The National will remain at ADM until arrangements for the transfer of its operations to new premises are concluded."

IMI thanked ADM for the “continuing development and stewardship of a brand that has made a substantial contribution to media reporting and analysis in the UAE and region”.

ADM, publisher of the Arabic-language daily Aletihad, expressed confidence that the new owner of The National would continue developing and investing in its distinctive voice in an increasingly exciting and challenging digital age.

IMI is a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corporation, a private company behind ventures such as the collaboration with Sky UK to launch Sky News Arabia.
