ABU DHABI // The governments of the UAE and the United States have joined forces to launch an online campaign highlighting women’s contributions to society.
The Sawab Centre – an initiative between the two government to fight extremist ideology – has launched the social media campaign where the public is invited to share tweets and Instagram posts about women’s achievements, using the hashtag #HerAchievementsInspireMe.
The campaign coincides with International Women’s Day.
By highlighting the accomplishments of women in society, culture, politics and the economy, the campaign hopes to counter the propaganda of terrorists groups such as ISIL.
The centre says it urges younger generations to draw inspiration from the women highlighted in the campaign.
The Sawab Centre launched its first campaign against ISIL’s inhumane treatment of women in November last year to “unmask the deception used by the group to recruit women”.
It has since accumulated more than 53,000 followers on Twitter.
The word “Sawab” in Arabic signifies “doing the right thing” or being on the “right path”, the centre says.
