ABU DHABI// More discreet breast enhancements, Brazilian butt lifts and several cosmetic procedures in one session are some of the trends plastic surgeons expect to see next year.
Experts say there will be no let up in the rising demand for aesthetic enhancements.
The newest trend across the Emirates is the composite breast augmentation that combines breast implants and fat grafting, according to Vasilica Baltateanu, managing director of Vasilica Aesthetics.
“This new concept combines the use of fat grafting to an implanted breast to increase the projection of the breast and reduce the unnatural look of artificial cleavage,” she said.
“About 80 per cent of the patients undergoing breast augmentation have the breast implant under the muscle that causes an unnatural feel, and they could have a painful recovery.”
Dr Timm Wolter, head of aesthetics and plastic surgery at Healthpoint in Abu Dhabi, said having several cosmetic procedures in one session was a growing trend.
“There is a trend not to have a single surgery like a tummy tuck, but to also consider breast lift, lifting of the thighs, flanks and liposuction at the same time,” he said.
“With increased safety and knowledge about these surgeries this becomes more common.”
Dr Mohan Rangaswamy, from Plastic Surgery Works in Dubai, believed that more patients would seek more advanced procedures with faster recovery time in seeking the “less is more” look.
“People no longer have the luxury of longer periods of rest to recuperate from major plastic surgery,” he said. “Technology is also improving steadily to enable smarter treatments with faster recovery.
“Following the same trend, some procedures are overtaking more traditional ones. Nose jobs are done more often now through open technique, which enables greater accuracy. Fat grafting of the breast is gaining momentum as an alternative to traditional silicone implants.”
Ultherapy, which uses ultrasound to tighten facial skin, is the latest trend in anti-aging treatments.
Minimally invasive body sculpting liposuction such as Vaser liposuction and cellulite reduction through ultrasonic cavitation are also gaining popularity, while lipoabdominoplasty, a refinement of the traditional tummy tuck, is overtaking the traditional procedure.
“Fat grafting and thread lifts for the face are now more popular than traditional face lifts, as they are quicker and easier to recover from,” said Dr Rangaswamy.
As for men, they are becoming more conscious of their looks, with more seeking breast reductions, also known as gynaecomastia, according to Dr Sanjay Saraf, a specialist plastic surgeon at NMC Specialty Hospital in Dubai.
“There has also been an upswing in the number of patients and queries for body contouring surgery,” he said.
