Dubai Municipality will start posting green cards on the doors or windows of restaurants that have successfully meet all food safety requirements as part of a new restaurant rating system to begin in February next year.
Restaurants rated “dangerous” and “critical” by inspectors will have a red card posted, meaning food preparation has been stopped by the municipality until the issue is solved.
Bobby Krishna, from the Food Control Department at Dubai Municipality, said consumers will be publicly and clearly informed of the level of food safety.
He explained the municipality was looking for a system that would increase the efficiency of inspections and would not allow restaurants to take food preparation and food display operations lightly and leave consumers at risk of getting food-poisoning, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
