ABU DHABI // Working hours for public sector employees in the UAE will be 9am to 2pm during Ramadan, according to a statement issued by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

The circular was issued as per Cabinet Decision No 13 of 2012 in implementation of Federal Law No 11 of 2008 and its amendments, state news agency Wam reported on Sunday.

The holy month of fasting is expected to begin on June 6, subject to the moon sighting.

School hours will also be shortened across the country as Ramadan overlaps with the last days of the academic calendar.

Thousands of school pupils will be sitting critical examinations, such as the ACT or A Levels, during Ramadan this year.

The last day of school for pupils is June 23.

Private sector working hours will be shortened by two hours, according to a statement issued by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation on Monday.

Companies are not required to follow the same timings as the public sector.
