About 1,000 ghaf trees will be planted by children across the country in a scheme run by Dubai Municipality, Middle East hotel operator Accor and environmental portal Goumbook.

The reforestation plan will be launched this month as part of the Plant for the Planet Campaign, which will support Goumbook’s Give a Ghaf Tree initiative.

Simran Vedvyas, 16, founder of student environment organisation SynergY, has been appointed as youth ambassador of the campaign, which will bring together more than 100 youngsters to planting the trees during 2015.

The Give a Ghaf Tree Planting Program was launched by Goumbook in 2010 to raise awareness about the UAE national tree and the incredible biodiversity present in the desert. Since then over 26,000 seeds have been planted by local companies and individuals.
