Dubai // A salesman threatened to cut a woman’s throat if she did not kiss him, a court heard.
The salesman, 33, then fled and it was only several months later, when he turned up as a new employee at the gym where the woman worked, that he was arrested.
The 24-year-old Filipina victim, a marketing executive at the gym, said she walked into the lift of her building on December 22 last year, and the defendant, E A, was inside.
The lift stopped at her floor but the man, a Filipino, blocked her exit, she said.
“He suddenly took out a blade and placed it on my neck.”
The man told her not to scream or he would kill her, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Monday.
“He told me he wanted to kiss me on my lips and asked me to kiss him back,” she said.
The woman managed to get out of the lift and the man fled.
Police were called but could not find the defendant and the case was closed. But in April, the gym where the woman worked hired a new employee and she recognised the worker as the defendant.
“He also recognised me and started asking about where I lived so I got scared and told my friend who advised me to inform the management, and when I did so, they called the police,” she said.
Police then arrested the man at the gym.
J T, a marketing manager at the gym, said the defendant had worked at a branch in Festival City but was transferred to the Up Town Mirdiff branch where he was recognised.
“She came to me the next day [after] he started work and she was crying and in a state of fear,” said J T.
E A denied issuing threats to kill and sexually assaulting a woman.
The defence requested that the woman be cross-examined.
The next hearing will take place on December 12.
