ABU DHABI // A 29-year-old Emirati was sentenced to life in prison by the Federal Supreme Court of Appeals for the attempted murder of an American.
The defendant was found guilty of premeditated attempted manslaughter after hitting the American with his car as he was jogging in Al Bahia in May last year.
The victim was injured but survived the attack.
The defendant was also found guilty of terror-related offences, including a plot to commit acts of terrorism in the UAE, including bombing the headquarters of Sky News Arabia in Abu Dhabi and Al Arabiya in Dubai.
The court also found him guilty of propagating the ideologies of terrorist groups Al Qaeda and ISIL online.
The court ordered the confiscation of all items seized during his arrest, including his car and phones. It also ordered the shutdown of all social media accounts belonging to the defendant. He was also ordered to pay all legal expenses of the case.
