ABU DHABI// Two Nigerian men caught smuggling packages of cocaine in their stomachs claimed they were forced to act as drug mules by gangsters.
The criminal court heard that the defendants were found to have a total of 118 capsules of cocaine inside them when they were arrested while in transit at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
They said they were paid $1,800 to take the drugs from Brazil back to their home country via Abu Dhabi.
As they were homeless and hungry in Brazil, the men said transporting the drugs was their only way to get a plane ticket home.
They also denied knowing the contents of the capsules when they agreed to swallow them.
A verdict will be announced on January 29.
