DUBAI // Five people have been arrested in connection with the seizure of more than 148 kilograms of cannabis seeds, Dubai Police have said.

Col Eid Thani Hareb, director of the anti-narcotics department, said they received information on the activities of two suspects, adding: “They used a small grocery store in the Al Sabkha area in Dubai as a front to run their criminal activities.”

Col Hareb said authorities raided the store and nearby locations, where they found eight plastic bags carrying more than 148 kilograms of cannabis seeds.

The arrest of the two suspects led to the arrest of the rest of the gang, of whom four members were of the same Asian nationality.

Col Hareb said that upon interrogation the men admitted to receiving, hiding and promoting drugs.

Police urged residents to contact them on their 24-hour free hotline, 800400400, if they suspect any drug activity.
