A good place to live

As The National reports today, the UAE now attracts proportionally more young aspiring migrants than the traditional top destinations: the US, Australia and Switzerland.

This is not really a surprise. This country's rich resources and openness, in terms of ideas and market, have attracted scholars, media and professional practitioners who left their own countries due to restrictions.

But there is, of course, more to this country than "big bucks". It is one of the safest countries in the world, another factor that attracts families to the UAE to work and bring up their children.

Cultural diversity also makes this a top choice for many. Everyone can find a community within the UAE's society. The fact that the UAE is a salad bowl, rather than a melting pot, makes it the favourite of many, especially from the Middle East and Asia.

It also helps that it is easier, logistically and geographically, for expatriates to move to the UAE than to many western countries.

In a world beset with financial problems, a booming UAE will continue to be a destination for those who wish to make a better life for themselves and their families.
