UAE U17s were seconds away from reaching Gulf Cup final

The UAE Under 17 side were left deflated at the Aspire Academy last night as Qatar booked their place in the Gulf Cup final against Saudi Arabia after winning 4-3 on penalties.

The Emirates had taken a 1-0 lead in Doha through Hameed Abdulla Ali on 22 minutes  and were on course for a final appearance when, three minutes into injury time, Jasim Jalabi equalised for Qatar with 25 seconds left in the match forcing the semi-final to a penalty shoot-out.

UAE will now play Oman in the 3rd-placed play-off at the same venue tomorrow night.

The Under 23 side are in action tonight in their Gulf Cup competition.
