DUBAI // Sheikha Latifa bint Ahmed won the Emirates Airline Dubai Grand Prix FEI World Cup Qualifier yesterday with a dominating performance nearly three seconds better than the runner-up.
The featured event of the Dubai Showjumping Championship, the Dh170,000 Dubai Equestrian Club Grand Prix FEI World Cup, brought together the top 33 riders that qualified from Friday's Gulf News Dubai Cup. The field was then narrowed to nine in the jump off finals with six countries represented.
Sheikha Latifa guided her mount Peanuts De Beaufour home in an impressive time of 48.48 seconds to clinch victory for the UAE.
Ferenc Szentirmai, of Ukraine, was second on Corenso with a time of 51.07 to edge Saudi Arabia's Ramzy Al Duhami aboard Bayard Van De Viilla Theresia in 51.61.
The final day began with the Longines Accumulator, a Dh80,500 event that resulted in a 1-2-3 finish by UAE riders, led by Ahmed Al Junaibi.
Riding Ucorado B, Al Junaibi was masterful as he completed the jumps in 55.13 to best Rashid Al Rumaithi, who finished in 57.87 aboard Caisun. Abdullah Mohammed Al Marri took third in 59.41 aboard Alaska.
A field of 54 competitors, representing 19 countries, contested the Accumulator, an event that allows competitors to select the jumps. Each fence cleared is worth points based on difficulty. The winner is decided by highest point total and fastest time.
