Something has to give when Zedan and Habtoor fight it out in the final of the President of the UAE Polo Cup tomorrow.
The table-topping teams have been perfect so far in the regions biggest polo tournament, progressing unbeaten through their groups at Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club.
Zedan booked their passage to the final with a 8-5 victory over Abu Dhabi, with their eight-goal Argentine professional Ignacio Heguy scoring a tournament record-equalling seven goals.
"We are in the final and we have got there without losing a match so we are very happy," said Heguy. "Now we play Habtoor and we know that they are a very good team, but for us our aim has not changed. We are still aiming to win this tournament and that is what we will be playing for."
Heguy's patron, Amr Zedan, who has ambitions to develop the sport in his home country, said he was pleased to be flying the flag for Saudi Arabia in the UAE.
"That was a great game and we are proud to be representing Saudi Arabia in the final," he said. "Now we look forward to the final."
Zedan looked to have the game sewn up when they went in to half time with a 5-1 lead but Abu Dhabi fought back and Alfredo Cappella came alive, blazing to four goals in the final two chukkers.
But Heguy, who had scored all but one of Zedan's first half goals, put away another three to seal victory.
Last night's other game was a much closer affair with Habtoor edging their Dubai rivals 8-7.
Tournament hosts Ghantoot Land Rover, had been equal with Zedan and Habtoor on points going into last night's games, but had played one more game.
They will face Bin Drai in the subsidiary final tomorrow.
Ghantoot's Hugo Barabucci said a win in the subsidiary final would be some consolation for missing out on the main final.
"We were disappointed not to have reached the final in this competition, especially as we are the defending champions," said the seven-goal Argentine. "But we lost a game in the preliminary stages and that cost us.
"But we are playing well and although this will be a tough subsidiary final, we are confident."
The final will take place at 5.40pm while the subsidiary final will start at 4.00pm. Admission is free.
