WIMBLEDON // Defending champion Venus Williams moved a step closer to her fifth Wimbledon singles title after beating Tamarine Tanasugarn in straight sets to reach the semi-finals and close in on another potential championship match-up with sister Serena. Williams ended the dream run of the 31-year-old Thai Tanasugarn 6-4, 6-3 on Court 1 and had her sights firmly fixed on once again lining up opposite her sibling in the final. "I love it here, I've had some great times," said the 28-year-old. "It will be amazing if we were both in the final, I've just got to keep it up for one more match.
Two-time champion Serena Williams, seeded sixth for the tournament, is scheduled on Centre Court against 19-year-old Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland. The Williams sisters are in opposite halves of the draw and could meet in Saturday's final. Venus will meet Elena Dementieva in the last-four, after Dementieva beat Nadia Petrova 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 in her quarter-final match. Nicole Vaidisova and China's Zheng Jie play in the other quarter-final match to determine the remaining semi-finalist. *AP
