Roger Federer beat the Frenchman Gael Monfils 7-6 (9-7), 6-2, 6-4 to stay on course to complete his set of grand slam titles. It means that the Swiss has reached his 20th consecutive grand slam semi-final with victory in the French Open quarter-final tie. A set point down in the opening set, Federer won the tie-break and and then went on to dominate the 11th seed for the rest of the match. Monfils had no chance to recover and was soon two breaks down in the second as Federer served out the set in under half an hour. The Frenchman saved another break point in game nine of the third set after twice calling in the doctor to deal with a stomach complaint, but was soon broken. Federer sealed victory in 2hrs 10mins and will now face fifth seed Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina or Spanish 16th seed Tommy Robredo in the last four. Meanwhile, Martina Navratilova, the most decorated women's player of all time, has received the International Tennis Federation's highest accolade for her exceptional contribution to the game, the prestigious Philippe Chatrier Award.
