Selby reigns supreme over King

The in-form Mark Selby becomes the first player to reach the quarter-finals of the Roewe Shanghai Masters.

SHANGHAI // The in-form Mark Selby became the first player to reach the quarter-finals of the Roewe Shanghai Masters when he completed a whitewash over Mark King yesterday. Selby has so far dropped only a single frame following his impressive 5-1 first-round victory against the teenager Judd Trump. He has compiled a 70 plus break in every winning frame, his highest being 105. There were no centuries against King but the the Leicester potter was home and dry in 82 minutes recording top breaks of 68 (twice) and 53.

The next opponent for the Wembley Masters champion is Hong Kong's Marco Fu, the winner of last season's Grand Prix who beat Andy Hicks 5-2, the Devon professional compiling the highest break of the match, an 85. Ricky Walden, who put out Stephen Hendry in the first round, followed up with a 5-4 victory over the Australian Neal Robertson. Flintshire's Walden won the last four frames helped by successive breaks of 75, 66 and 89. He goes in against the veteran and six- times world champion, Steve Davis, at 51 the oldest player on the circuit. Davis came back from3-0 and 4-1 behind against DaveHarold to win5-4. Indeed, he was down 29-50 in the decider with two reds left but won on the pink which he potted into the green pocket.
