Tigers finally find their roar in remarkable comeback against Canberra

Wests Tigers came from 18 points down to beat Canberra Raiders 35-22 to move up to third in the NRL yesterday. The Raiders led 22-4 before tries from Benji Marshall, Robbie Farah, the captain, and Chris Lawrence levelled the scores. Farah's drop goal thereafter put them in front for the first time with eight minutes remaining. Liam Fulton and Beau Ryan capped the amazing fightback with late tries. "You can say maybe we didn't deserve to win based on our first half, but on our second half we did," said Tim Sheens, the Tigers coach.

"We had our hands around their throat and all of a sudden, somehow, they got out of it," said Alan Tongue, the Canberra captain. Elsewhere, Manly Sea Eagles proved too clinical for New Zealand Warriors winning 14-6 in Auckland. The Warriors could not repeat the form that flattened the Broncos in Brisbane last weekend and looked tired and in going down to the Sea Eagles. Manly moved to seventh place, just one place behind the Warriors in the standings, after four rounds.

In rugby union, London Wasps were 33-22 victors over London Irish in the Guinness Premiership yesterday. Tries from Tom Varndell, Dan Ward-Smith and Dominic Waldouck sealed the win.
