Cooke serves up key win for Rovers

Hull KR leapfrogged their rivals, Hull FC, in the Super League table with a 18-14 win in the Humber derby at the KC Stadium yesterday. Paul Cooke, who controversially moved to Rovers in 2007, was among the try-scorers as the away side forged an 18-4 lead after 44 minutes. Although Hull staged a comeback, scoring tries through Shaun Berrigan and Richard Whiting, their recovery came too late.

Martin Gleeson's debut for Wigan ended in a 19-12 defeat but coach Brian Noble was encouraged with the centre's performance against St Helens. "It was a baptism of fire but I think he will add a lot to us when we get to know him," said Noble after Thursday's game. Jerome Guisset scored two tries as the Catalan Dragons followed up their epic Challenge Cup triumph over Bradford with a 28-24 win at Harlequins.

The NRL has been hit by yet another alcohol-related incident after Canberra forward Trevor Thurling was found to be drink-driving following his involvement in a car crash. Thurling, who has been stood down by the club, was arrested following the accident. * With agencies
