UAE bowling team strike silver at Arab Games in Doha


Mahmood Al Attar and Jamal Ali of the UAE won the silver medal in men's doubles bowling yesterday at the Arab Games in Doha.

Sayed Al Hashemi and Hussain Al Suwaidi finished sixth in the final standings, and Shaker Al Hassan and Nayef Eqab were 10th.

Egypt led the overall medals competition with 14 golds and 30 in total, followed by Qatar (eight golds, 21 total) and Morocco (five golds, 16 total).

The UAE are 14th in the table having won one silver and two bronze medals.

In women's volleyball yesterday, the UAE crushed Kuwait 25-9, 25-14, 25-8 to win their preliminary round match. Fattma Hassan led the UAE with 12 points, eight on spikes and four on serve.

In men's team tennis, the UAE were eliminated in the second round, as Omar Al Awadhi and Hamad Janahi lost their matches against Egypt.

However, the Emirates' two representatives both booked their place in the second round of the singles competition after Janahi and Al Awadhi won their respective first-round matches against Iraq's Maab Al Jumaily and Qatar's Mousa Zayed.

In billiards, Amin Fikree of the UAE lost in the third round to Khaled Al Mutairi of Kuwait 7-3.

The men's table tennis team were eliminated at the semi-final stage following a 3-0 defeat to Egypt.
