Phillips ruled out for the season

New York Giants safety Kenny Phillips will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. The second-year defender intercepted two passes and made seven tackles in last Sunday's win against the Dallas Cowboys. Phillips, a first-round draft pick by the Giants in 2008, was placed on the injured reserve list because of arthritis. The Giants picked up Aaron Rouse off the waivers from the Green Bay Packers to replace him. Rouse was released by the Packers on Wednesday after starting their first two games of the season. "I really feel for Kenny because he had worked so hard during the offseason to prepare himself for the 2009 season," said Giants general manager Jerry Reese said. "He had a great camp and was just beginning to come into his own and showed flashes of being one of the premier safeties in the NFL."
