Netherlands upset Dominican Republic

SAN JUAN // Eugene Kingsale scored both runs as the Netherlands rallied for a 2-1 victory over the heavily favoured Dominican Republic in 11 innings on Tuesday to earn a surprise spot in the second round of the World Baseball Classic. After an error by first baseman Willy Aybar allowed the winning run to score, Netherlands players rushed out of the dugout and piled all over each other in a raucous celebration that resembled a World Series finale.

"This is a miracle. The Dominican Republic is one of the best teams in the world," the Netherlands manager Rod Delmonico said. In other action, Yoennis Cespedes and Yosbany Peraza both hit a solo home run as Cuba advanced to the second round with a 5-4 victory over Australia. * AP
