MLB round-up: Giants continue dominance over Colorado Rockies

San Francisco hammered Colorado 11-6 on Saturday night, just a day scoring after a 16-4 rout of their opponents.

Angel Pagan homered and had four hits to back a solid outing by Madison Bumgarner that sent the San Francisco Giants past the Colorado Rockies 11-6 last night.

Buster Posey and Melky Cabrera also homered as the Giants pounded out a season-high 17 hits and beat Colorado for the fifth time in seven games this season, including four of five at Coors Field. It was the Rockies' 10th loss in their last 12 games.

San Francisco had 16 hits in a 16-4 rout of Colorado on Friday night.

Bumgarner (12-6) allowed one run and five hits in six strong innings. He struck out seven and walked one.

Pagan had three RBIs to help the Giants win consecutive games after a 1-7 skid.

The Cincinnati Reds continued their superb form with an exciting 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The game was tied at 4-4 going into the bottom of the eighth inning when Scott Rolen scored the decisive run to give the Reds the win.

Rolen raced around the bases to turn a shot to centre field that hit the top of the wall into a triple, and then one pitch later he slid home for the clincher after Todd Frazier bounced an infield grounder toward the first-base line.

Cincinnati have now won five games on the trot and 15 of their last 16 as they extended their lead at the top of the National League Central division to five 1/2 games over the Pirates.

American League West pacesetters the Texas Rangers also continued their good recent streak as they picked up a fourth successive victory with a 4-2 triumph over the Kansas City Royals.

The Rangers move further clear of the second-placed Oakland Athletics, who lost 3-1 at AL East stragglers the Toronto Blue Jays.

Toronto took the victory with two runs in the 11th inning following a throwing error by catcher George Kottaras on Edwin Encarnacion's steal attempt.

Felix Hernandez pitched his third shutout of the season to guide the Seattle Mariners to a 1-0 win over AL East leaders the New York Yankees, who have now lost 10 of their last 15 matches.

Cleveland Indians suffered their eighth successive loss after going down 6-1 against the Detroit Tigers, for whom Brennan Boesch and Jhonny Peralta both hit RBI triples.

The Minnesota Twins celebrated a third successive win after defeating the Boston Red Sox 6-4 in dramatic fashion at Fenway, the visitors scoring four runs in the final inning with Joe Mauer smashing a three-run homer when down to a final strike, while the Los Angeles Dodgers earned a 3-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on the back of Matt Kemp's two-run homer.

NL East leaders the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 10-7 on the back of a six-run eighth inning, while the St Louis Cardinals were convincing 6-1 winners over the Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles beat Tampa Bay Rays 4-0.

Also, the Los Angeles Angles downed the Chicago White Sox 6-5 thanks to a two-out RBI single from Howie Kendrick in the 10th, the Houston Astros beat the Atlanta Braves 3-2, Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0 and the New York Mets were 6-2 victors over the San Diego Padres.
