The Toronto Blue Jays snapped a five-game losing streak on Sunday, ending New York's four-game winning run with a 10-7 victory over the American League East-leading Yankees.
Edwin Encarnacion belted his 30th homer of the season in a six-run fourth inning and Rajai Davis tied a career high by driving in five RBI to help the Blue Jays thwart the visitors' attempt for a sweep.
Davis made the defensive play of the game, scaling the 10-foot high left field fence in the seventh to snare a potential long ball off the bat of New York infielder Casey McGehee.
"Rajai had a big day," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "I don't know how many people make the catch he did. It was just an outstanding timing play."
Davis wasn't sure McGehee's drive would be playable at first, but let his instincts take over as the ball came down.
"That was amazing," he said. "You dream about doing something like that at the highest level."
Josh Hamilton clubbed his 32nd homer and drove in three runs while Yu Darvish struck out eight over 6 2/3 innings as the Texas Rangers overcame the Detroit Tigers 8-3.
Adrian Gonzalez had four RBI and Jon Lester struck out 12 over six solid innings as the Boston Red Sox thrashed the Cleveland Indians 14-1 to split the four-game series, while Desmond Jennings hit the tiebreaking run in the 10th inning as the Tampa Bay Rays won their seventh straight game with a 7-3 success against the Minnesota Twins.
In other AL games, the Central-leading Chicago White Sox overcame the Oakland Athletics 7-3, the Baltimore Orioles edged the Kansas City Royals 5-3 and the Seattle Mariners defeated the Los Angeles Angels 4-1.
National League East-leading Washington saw their eight-game winning run halted with a 7-4 loss against Arizona.
Rookie pitcher Patrick Corbin restricted the Nationals to four hits and struck out seven over seven innings, while Paul Goldschmidt had three RBI for the Diamondbacks.
Chris Capuano gave up two hits and struck out nine over eight innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers saw off the Miami Marlins 5-0, and Johnny Cueto pitched eight scoreless innings to help the NL Central-leading Cincinnati Reds to a 3-0 triumph against the Chicago Cubs.
Hunter Pence's three-run homer in the eighth inning spurred the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants to a 9-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies, while the Philadelphia Phillies squeezed past the St Louis Cardinals 8-7 thanks to Juan Pierre's game-winning single in the 11th inning.
Elsewhere in NL action, the New York Mets edged the Atlanta Braves 6-5, the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the San Diego Padres 11-5 and the Milwaukee Brewers won 5-3 against the Houston Astros.
