Brett Favre, centre, puts his hands to his hips after being called for an illegal crackback block to the knee of Houston Texans' Eugene Wilson.

Favre fined for dangerous block against Texans

The Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was fined $10,000 (Dh36,700) by the National Football League on Friday for an illegal 'crackback block' in a pre-season game against the Houston Texans. Favre, who changed his mind about retiring during the off-season, was lined up at receiver when the Vikings played a version of the 'Wildcat' offence and lunged at defensive back Eugene Wilson with a banned low challenge to the legs.

The challenge is considered particularly dangerous and Wilson injured his knee. Favre, 39, announced his retirement after a disappointing end to last season with the New York Jets but opted to come back with the Vikings. * Reuters
