Backstrom signs deal with Capitals

Nicklas Backstrom has signed a 10-year, US$67 million (Dh246m) contract extension with the Washington Capitals. The Capitals announced their new deal with the Swedish centre on Monday, a reward after a season in which he set career-highs with 33 goals and 68 assists. The 101 points rank fourth in the NHL.
